Day 22: Cloverdale, IN to Casey, IL (81.5 miles)
Last night’s “sleep challenge” was Campsite Karaoke a few sites away from our camp site by a large group of local campers. Their off-key performance ended at 12:30 am. Most of the group is running on 4-5 hrs of sleep. Today’s ride was 81.5 miles (I missed a turn and added 9 extra miles). After visiting Poland, we rode on the National Road Heritage Trail for 7.3 miles, then arrived in Terre Haute, the largest city we will visit between Pittsburgh and the St. Louis area and home of ISU. After leaving West Terre Haute, we entered Illinois at mile 43.5. In Illinois, we cycled through Marshall (had a great lunch of stuffed chicken w/ apple pie), and Martinsville, before arriving in Casey, the home of the world’s largest chair, pencil, mailbox, wind chimes and other items. We are staying at a KOA campground in Casey. The temps are going into the 50’s tonight which should make for good sleeping, something most of us need to catch up on.
