Day 57: Ennis, MT to Dillon, MT ( 71.7 miles)
Due to the Women’s World Cup final between the USA and the Netherlands, we slept in, had a bacon, eggs, and hash brown breakfast and watched the game in the campground office before heading out at 11 am. (USA won 2-0).
Right out of Ennis there is a 9.5 mile hill with a 7% incline, challenging way to start the day. The downhill into Virginia City was exhilarating. We didn’t stop due to the late start. Next towns were Nevada City, Sheridan, and Twin Bridges. Most of the afternoon we saw the threat of rain to our left, but managed to stay dry. From Twin Bridges to Dillon, about 24 miles, severe headwinds greeted us, which made for tough and slow riding. We passed Beaverhead Rock and the Beaverhead River. We arrived in Dillon and stayed at the KOA campground right on the Beaverhead. I fished the river in the evening, and camped about 20 ft from the river. The whole group was tired after today’s challenging ride.
