Day 47: Walden, CO to Saratoga, WY (44.7 miles)
After yesterday’s ride, we got a slight reprieve with a moderate tail wind and more downhills than uphills. As we hit the 22 mile mark, we entered Wyoming, our 13th state. The road shoulders immediately got wider, which was nice. We saw very few towns; Cowdrey in Colorado and Riverside in Wyoming.
Today’s ride was different from the last two days as we saw more free range cattle, grazing land, and ranches versus mountains. Today we also saw prairie dogs and antelope.
We are staying at the parish hall of St Barnabas Episcopal Church, as part of the Warm Showers program. It’s a very nice facility and no mosquitos. Saratoga is a sportsman’s Paradise. The North Platte River, a premier trout stream, flows through town. (The River is running high, so fishing was not an option.) The town also has public hot springs, which are open 24/7. Very nice! This would be a nice town to get back to.
