Day 48: Saratoga, WY to Rawlins, WY (46.3 miles)
Today is a relatively easy day, thanks to lower mileage and a partial tail wind for most of the ride. The ride was “amazing for it’s nothingness”. Today we saw multiple areas where no man made structure were in view, only ranch land and open space. We saw many antelope.
We passed through Sinclair, home to a massive oil refinery the town is named after and depends on. Another thrill was riding on Interstate 80, which is allowed when no other roads exist. Fortunately, construction on the west bound lane gave bicyclists a car free road for about 8 miles. It was great, however we rode on I-80 with traffic for 5 miles, very wide shoulder. The only other town we saw before Rawlins was Walcott Junction, which was tiny.
In Rawlins, we’re staying at the Western Hills Campground, a place that caters to RV’s, but has a patch of grass for tent campers. Interesting feature is a constant wind. Wind blocks have been erected in the tent camping area because the winds are so steady. Also, we found a place, the Office Bar and Grill, to watch the US women defeat France 2-0, in WWC action. Go USA!
