Day 68: Halfway, OR to Baker City, OR (53.0 miles)
Left Halfway at 7 am and started climbing almost immediately. We reached the pass at Foster Gulch at mile 14 (3,653 ft). The 3 mile downhill into Richland was exhilarating. This part of Oregon reminded me of Idaho, with the high hills, arid temperatures, and cattle ranches. Several miles outside of Richland, we followed the Powder River all the way until the next ascent to Flagstaff Hill (3,684ft) at mile 45. A few miles further was the National Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, which we plan to see tomorrow. Coming in to Baker City, tonight’s destination, we passed a whole field of antique farm equipment. Our destination for tonight and tomorrow is the Mountain View RV park.
