Day 34: Washington, KS to Mankato, KS (64.4 miles)
Waking up to rain made preparation a bit challenging. Fortunately, only intermittent showers fell for the first hour of the ride. Today’s challenge was a 15-25 mph side wind from the south, as we travelled directly west from Washington to Mankato. Each day, our bike skills improve with changing conditions. By my calculations, we’ve gone 1845 miles, almost halfway. Today’s ride featured one town, Belleville at mile 31. I stopped at the Feathered Nest, a combination furniture store and coffee shop for coffee and blueberry pie a la mode. A delicious snack before lunch! Took a ride around Main Street, saw city hall, before heading back on West 36 to get to Mankato. Tonight we’re camping in a city park near the downtown area. Today’s photos include very curious cows (as opposed to yesterday’s herd which ran away from me when I tried to get a shot(?)), and some interesting structures.
