Day 75: McKenzie Bridge, OR to Coburg, OR (55.3 miles)
Left McKenzie Bridge around 7:30am, along the McKenzie River to Blue River, Finn Rock, Nimrod, Vida, Leaburg, and Walterville, before reaching Coburg, a northern suburb of Eugene. We had the “greatest hash browns in the United States”, per Yo at the Vida Cafe. Our server, Lee Marie, was a hoot. We passed a shop of Christmas Treasures, and took some pictures, of course. We passed through the town of Nimrod, and yes, it really exists. Just outside of Vida, we saw the Goodpasture Covered Bridge, a landmark in this area. Unfortunately, it was covered with scaffolding and was being painted, so not much to see.
In Leaburg, we stopped at the Leaburg Fish Hatchery, and took a self guided tour. We saw the stocking pools of salmon and trout, as well as the large breeding stock trout; very impressive! In Walterville, we rode on Camp Creek Road, a much calmer road with a wider shoulder than Route 126. Our destination for the night was Armitage Park in Coburg. We had dinner in town, and a campfire when we got back. I fished briefly in the McKenzie River, but got no cooperation from the fish.
