Day 14: Wheeling, WV to Byesville, OH (62.5 miles)
Left Wheeling before the Memorial Day Half Marathon started, riding on the runner’s route about 20 minutes before the start of the race. Incidentally, I slept in the sanctuary of the Church last night, very peaceful. Crossing the Ohio River as we left Wheeling, we arrived in the next state of our trip, Ohio. Riding on the Ohio Scenic Byway, we went through Bellaire, Neffs, Stewartville, Glencoe, Warnock (stopped on a scenic bridge for a sandwich at 9:45 am), Belmont, Bethesda, Barnesville, Quaker City, Salesville, Senecaville, and Byesville. Steve, Bruce, and I stopped at the Wooden Wheel, an Amish restaurant in Quaker City, for lunch and pie. A note on today’s ride: Southern Ohio is very HILLY! I used my “granny” gear over 25 times today! Tonight we are staying at the Calgary Baptist Church in Byesville.
