Hello!

I’m following my lifelong dream to ride my bike across the United States.

This blog will document my trek.

Day 6: Washington DC to Knoxville, MD (53.1 miles)

Day 6: Washington DC to Knoxville, MD (53.1 miles)

Last evening was punctuated by not 1, not 2, but 3 fire alarms at the DC Hostel between 12:15 and 1:30 am. Cause was kitchen dishwasher on 2nd floor. Late start leaving Washington DC with one more pass by the monuments on our way to Georgetown via the Rock Creek Bike Path, and then the Crescent Trail. Entered Maryland after getting on the C& O Canal path. Passed thru Great Falls, White’s Ferry, and ended at Point of Rocks. We could not go further because the path was washed out. Loaded the bikes on the van and got shuttled to Knoxville, near Harper’s Ferry. Scenic ride with many locks and wildlife. Some muddy sections made riding challenging. The Appalachian Trail intersects with the C&O Canal in this area. Met several AT hikers at the Hostel.
