Day 17: Mount Sterling, OH to Waynesville, OH (51.9 miles)
Awoke to the call to evacuate the campground at 11:30 pm due to a tornado warning. We used the van to drive to the lodge located 1.5 miles away. As the warning kept getting extended, we tried to sleep in the hallways at the lodge. At 2am, Mike and Dan, the tour leaders, decided to get rooms for all of us. At 8:30 am, we went back to the campground to assess wind/ water damage; Surprisingly little, so we ate, packed up and got on the road by 10:30 am. (Last night 52 tornados hit Ohio and Indiana. One tornado damaged Dayton, about 30 miles from where we were.) Beautiful, sunny day, however 15-25 mph head winds were challenging. Visited the towns of Madison Mills, Jeffersonville, and Jamestown. Tonight we’re staying at Caesar Creek State Park, outside of Waynesville. We did not see any tornado damage on our ride today.
Waiting for the tornado to pass in the lodge hallway- 1:30 am
Our campsite after last night’s wind/ rain - surprisingly dry.
Hard to capture the head winds in a still photo
More cool farm equipment
Two heads are better than one (Yolande and Steve, Tom in the background)
