Day 65: Grangeville, ID to Pollack, ID (57.2 miles)
After catching 5 more trout after dinner, a great sunset last evening, and a restful night, we headed out at 7:15 am today. Out of Grangeville, we picked up Old White Bird Hill Road and started an ascent of 4 miles. Upon reaching the top, the view was spectacular and included the White Bird Battlefield, site of a significant battle between the Nez Perce Indians and the US Army. We missed a more scenic road for the descent and stayed on Route 95 instead. We went through White Bird, which is the start of the Hell’s Canyon Region in Idaho. We rode along the Salmon River through Lucile and Riggins. After Riggins, we followed the Little Salmon into Pollock, tonight’s destination. Canyon Pines RV resort is right on the river. I caught a half dozen trout before dinner, and gave Dan, the leader, his first fly fishing lesson. He even caught his first trout on a fly! By the way, I’ve pedaled a total of 3447 miles so far.
