Day 52: Dubois, WY to Colter Bay Village,WY (67.3 miles)
Exciting day today for two reasons: We’re riding in to Grand Teton National Park, but more importantly, Amy and Jan are in Wyoming to visit me and see both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
We started riding in 44 degrees but it quickly warmed up. From Dubois, we rode along the Wind River, generally uphill, for 30 miles, culminating with a 2600 ft climb to Togwatee Pass, right at the Continental Divide. The downhill was fabulous, 17 miles of -6 degree drop. Headwinds limited my speed to 34 mph. After the downhills, the Teton mountains became evident. I stopped at the Tie Hack Monument, which was dedicated to all the woodsmen who provided railway ties in Wyoming. The ride into Moran was beautiful.
At Moran Junction, we entered Grand Teton Park, then rode 9 miles to Colter Bay Village. The group is camping at Colter Bay Campground at a group site, but not me. I’m staying with Amy and Jan at Luton Teton Cabins in Moran. Amy and Jan met the group and had dinner with everyone. It was a tasty dinner with funny conversation.
