Day 54: Coulter Bay Campground, WY to Madison Campground, WY (41.0 miles)
After getting dropped off at the campground at 6:00am by Amy and Jan, we loaded the bikes on the van for the ride into Yellowstone National Park. Since the road in to Yellowstone had no shoulder, we were required to get shuttled in to Grant Village before starting to ride. We stopped at Lewis Falls for pictures.
From Grant Village, we biked to Old Faithful and saw it erupt, on schedule. The ride from Old Faithful to Madison was along the Firehole River, past the Geyser Basin and by the Nez Perce Creek. We camped at Madison campground which is located where the Gibbon, Firehole, and Madison rivers meet. I tried fishing the Madison in the evening, saw some “Caddis” hatching, which turned out to be Yellow Sally stoneflies, a very light colored insect not seen in the East. What a magical place!
