Day 77: Salmonberry Park, OR to Florence, OR (68.7 miles)
WE DID IT!!!
After 77 days, the group arrived at the Oregon coast and dipped our front tires in the Pacific Ocean at the Beachside State Recreation Area, four miles south of Waldport, Oregon! Thinking back to all of the ups and downs of the trip, it was an emotional moment. Fortunately for me, Amy and Rachel were there, too, to share the moment and take photos.
Today’s ride started in Salmonberry Park along Route 34 on the Alsea Highway and went for 32 miles along back roads with lots of pine trees. We went through Waldport, got our first view of the Pacific, and went south to the beach. After the wheel dipping ceremony, we took Highway 101, 31 more miles to Florence. We travelled through Yachats, and the Cape Perpetua Recreation Area, stopping to take pictures of the coastline. In Florence, the group camped at the Suislaw RV Park and Campground, but I stayed with Amy and Rachel at the River House Inn. The whole group met for a celebration dinner at the International C-Food Restaurant in Florence, and a smaller group went to the Homegrown Public House for some local craft brews and lots of laughs.
