Day 30: Higginsville, MO to Lawson, MO (67.8 miles)
Got an early start with the expectation of hills, miles, and headwinds. Cool night and morning was a nice change. After a good night’s sleep, I felt very good all day. Early, we saw lots of rolling hills, round hay bales, and farmers out in the fields. From Higginsville, we went to Leximgton, via Highway O, then to Henrietta on ST13, and on to Camden, Orrick, Wood Heights, and Lawson before arriving at Watkins Mill State Park. All in all, not as tough a day as first expected. I had some great ice cream in Lawson at the Candyman Ice Cream Shop- 1 scoop Sea Salt Caramel and 1 scoop Chocolate Overload Therapy (just plain awesome!) Another great stop was accidental; stopped at a home in Camden we thought was public but was not. The owner, Janet Stevens, came to the door. We started talking about our trip and her home, which was amazing, and stayed 30 minutes+ seeing her garden, old cars, and antiques. Very fun, unexpected encounter. Outside of Lexington, we saw the Missouri River once more from SR13, and the flooding around it continues to amaze us all.
