Day 20: Recovery Day in Franklin, IN (0 miles)
After a good night’s sleep with no interruptions (mating owls, fire alarms, tornado scare, raccoons, etc.), I spent the day off the bike doing exciting things like laundry, going to Walmart for supplies, and getting my bike checked at the Gray Goat Bicycle Co. in Franklin. Brandon Sweet, the owner, was fun to talk with, very knowledgeable, and taught me a few things about cleaning my bike and adjusting disc brakes. I highly recommend his shop, as he is very customer focused. We ate breakfast at Anne’s on Monroe Street, a popular local breakfast spot, very good.
So far, we’ve ridden 1055.4 miles. We’ll be in Illinois on Monday, 6/3/19.
So far, only 1 out of 7 bakeries visited had cannolis for purchase.
Good fishing spots have been sparse due to lots of rain in the areas along the route. Streams are running high and discolored. Talking with a local farmer, less than 10% of farmland in Indiana has been planted because of the wet spring. He said typically 70-80% would be planted by now. Back on the road tomorrow, as we head toward Cloverdale, IN.
Finally, here’s the link to the evening newscast in Wheeling, WV on May 25 talking about our group passing through. (I’m the one in the green shirt): https:/www.wtrf.com/news/traveling-cyclists-make-a-stop-in-wheeling 20190525021350/2025704203
